Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday underscored the importance of humanity and compassion as he paid homage at three memorials, including the Jam Saheb of Nawanagar monument, affectionately known as 'Good Maharaja,' in Warsaw. The Maharaja had given refuge to over 1,000 Polish children who fled the Soviet Union during World War II.

Modi's visit, part of his two-nation tour which will also take him to Ukraine, included tributes at the Valivade-Kolhapur camp memorial and the Monument to the Battle of Monte Cassino. He highlighted the humanitarian actions of Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja and the Royal Family of Kolhapur, noting their significant roles in providing shelter and care to Polish refugees.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi's homage at these memorials acknowledges the deep historical ties and ongoing friendship between India and Poland. This visit marks the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years, emphasizing the enduring bond between the two nations.
