Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri joined a protest rally in Kolkata, denouncing the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Agnihotri expressed his profound outrage over the incident while speaking to ANI on Wednesday.

Agnihotri commented, "My demand is simple: since the time of Direct Action Day, rape has been exploited as a political weapon. In Bengal, communal, political, and electoral violence must end. We need to rebuild Bengal to ensure India's success, and this requires an overhaul of the current political system, which has utterly failed. I am here to encourage the youth to protest and strive for change."

The Supreme Court on Tuesday established a 10-member National Task Force, including Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, to recommend measures to prevent violence and ensure safe working conditions for medical professionals. The task force has been instructed to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months. The court also mandated the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the West Bengal government to file status reports on the investigation of the rape case and the mob attack at the hospital on August 15, respectively.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered during her duty at RG Kar Medical College, sparking nationwide protests. Civil societies and doctors across the country demanded severe punishment for the culprits and enhanced safety measures. The Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer in connection with the incident the following day. (ANI)
