Bengaluru police on Wednesday submitted an extensive charge sheet to the court naming 17 individuals, including notable Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his associate Pavithra Gowda, in the Renukaswamy murder case. The document, spanning 3,991 pages and collected in seven volumes and 10 files, was submitted to the 24th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, confirmed Police Commissioner B Dayananda.

According to police, the meticulously prepared charge sheet resulted from a thorough investigation scrutinizing all facets of the case. 'The charge sheet encompasses 231 witness statements, a substantial amount of technical and electronic evidence, consolidating a comprehensive investigation,' said Commissioner Dayananda.

In custody are 17 accused, with three eyewitnesses and 27 witnesses having testified. Darshan, previously moved to Bellary Jail after a viral photo showed him in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, will face further judicial scrutiny. The ACMM court has since ordered Darshan's transfer amid allegations of VIP treatment, and similar relocations for other accused parties.

Three investigative teams were set up to probe allegations of special hospitality within the jail. Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda commented on the case, stating, 'If extra privileges were provided, responsible officers should face consequences.' Following jailhouse indiscretions, the Karnataka government suspended seven prison officials as directed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Home Minister G Parameshwara labeled the incident a lapse, pledging it would not reoccur.
