Kerala Govt Distributes Free Onam Provision Kits to the Poor
The Kerala government will distribute around six lakh free Onam provision kits, including 13 essential commodities, to the underprivileged and welfare institution inmates. Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned Rs 34.29 crore for the initiative and created 1,368 new teaching posts in state-run and government-aided schools.

The Kerala government on Wednesday announced its plan to distribute approximately six lakh free provision kits to the impoverished and welfare institution inmates ahead of the forthcoming Onam festival on September 15.
A total of 13 essential commodities will be included in the Onam Kit, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office.
The decision, which was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, aims to provide 5,99,000 kits to holders of Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration cards and residents of welfare institutions. The distribution will be carried out through ration shops, and Rs 34.29 crore has been allocated to the State Civil Supplies Corporation, also known as Supplyco, for this purpose.
In other cabinet decisions, 1,368 additional teaching positions will be created in state-run and government-aided schools. The staff fixation for the academic year 2023-2024 sanctioned 957 new posts in 513 government schools and 1,368 new posts in 699 aided schools.
