Sikkim Adopts Nepali as Official Language Alongside English

The Sikkim government has started using Nepali as an official language along with English. This announcement was made by Chief Minister PS Tamang during Nepali Bhasha Manyata Diwas. The Sikkim Official Language Act, 1977, recognizes Nepali as an official state language. Currently, all notifications are only published in English.

Sikkim has started using Nepali as an official language alongside English for all gazettes and notifications starting Wednesday.

This change was announced by Chief Minister PS Tamang during a celebration of Nepali Bhasha Manyata Diwas on Tuesday.

A government notification emphasized that the Sikkim Official Language Act, 1977, recognizes Nepali as one of the state's official languages, though notifications are currently published solely in English.
