'Star Wars' spin-off series 'The Acolyte' will not be returning for a second season on the streaming platform Disney+, according to Lucasfilm, as reported by Variety.
The show, set around 100 years before 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,' had its first and only season premiere in June. Despite its cliffhanger ending and teased plotlines, the series has been axed due to a lukewarm reception from both fans and critics.
Created by Lesley Headland, known for her work on 'Russian Doll,' the series starred an ensemble cast including Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, and Carrie-Anne Moss. 'The Acolyte' explored shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers during the High Republic era. Despite high hopes and a strong narrative foundation, the show's mixed reviews led to its untimely end.
