More than a dozen Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) played a crucial role in assisting thousands of pilgrims during this year's Amarnath pilgrimage in the south Kashmir Himalayas, officials reported on Monday. The annual yatra concluded with over 5.10 lakh devotees offering prayers at the cave shrine.

The MRTs, which include personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were flagged off by Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar. They were deployed across the twin tracks leading to the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine almost a week before the start of the 52-day pilgrimage on June 29.

The teams successfully assisted more than 1,300 pilgrims in dire need and provided oxygen to 20,000 others. Their efforts were widely appreciated, and their role in ensuring the safety of the pilgrims was recognized by both the yatris and the broader community.
