A Mumbai artist has engineered a unique Ganpati idol featuring a levitating 'modak' for the forthcoming Ganpati festival. Ramakant Devaria, the 28-year-old creator, calls it the "Magical Ganpati" or "levitating Bappa."
Devaria, an electrical engineer by profession, revealed that the magnetic circuit allowing the 'modak' to float was a complex project that took about 3.5 years to perfect. He conceived the idea while discussing with his colleagues four years ago.
The innovative feature supplements the traditional Ganpati idol, which Devaria sculpted from mud to preserve its cultural essence. His creation can serve as a decorative piece post-immersion. The initial response from his shop's display will determine further production. Devaria, who has been sculpting since childhood, continues to balance his engineering career with his passion for idol-making.
