Karnataka to Commemorate Historic Centenaries in 2024

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that his government will celebrate the centenaries of the 1924 Belagavi session of the Indian National Congress and the founding of the Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha by B R Ambedkar in a memorable way. The announcement was made during the 78th Independence Day celebrations.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Thursday that his government will undertake all necessary measures to commemorate the centenaries of two significant historical events in 2024: the Belagavi session of the Indian National Congress and the establishment of the Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha by B R Ambedkar. The Chief Minister made this statement during his address on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, after hoisting the national flag at the Manekshaw Parade Ground.

Siddaramaiah highlighted the historical significance of the year 2024, noting that it marks 100 years since the Belagavi session of the Indian National Congress, the only session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi. In his presidential address, Gandhi had emphasized the importance of religious harmony and the welfare of the downtrodden.

The Chief Minister also pointed out the centenary of the founding of the Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha by Dr. B R Ambedkar, stating that it was a crucial milestone in Ambedkar's fight for the rights and awareness of the oppressed classes. Siddaramaiah stressed that these commemorations would be conducted in a memorable and meaningful way, reflecting the enduring relevance of these historical events.
