British actor Daniel Caltagirone, who portrays the antagonist Lord Clement in Pa Ranjith's highly awaited film 'Thangalaan', emphasizes that his character is far from being a stereotypical villain with a token presence in Indian cinema.

Set in the 19th-century Kolar Gold Mines, the Tamil movie, starring leading actor Vikram, promises an intriguing plot against the backdrop of the superhit Kannada franchise 'KGF'. Caltagirone, an actor well-known for his roles in Hollywood films such as 'The Pianist' and 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life', is currently in Chennai promoting 'Thangalaan'.

Praising the director Pa Ranjith's vision, Caltagirone describes their long conversations about breaking away from clichéd portrayals of British characters. He was intrigued by Ranjith's approach, which explores the nuanced psychology of characters, notably delving into themes of desire, need, and greed in the pursuit of gold. The movie also aims to capture the historical exploitation of the Kolar Gold Fields by the British over two centuries ago.
