Charlize Theron has revealed that the highly anticipated sequel 'The Old Guard 2' faces delays due to a post-production shutdown by Netflix and other industry obstacles.

The original movie, written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, premiered in 2020 and became a major success on the streaming platform.

Theron mentioned that production wrapped up nearly two years ago, but a shift in Netflix's leadership and subsequent post-production issues caused the delay.

'Netflix went through quite a changeover. We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it,' Theron explained, adding that the actors and writers' strikes further postponed the project.

Despite the delays, Theron is optimistic and excited about the film. 'We finally picked it back up and I'm really excited about it. It's really good... It will come out soon... It's a really important film to us. I only wanted to do it if we could make it amazing. I really love this movie,' she said.

The sequel, based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernandez, was directed by Victoria Mahoney and features returning cast members and newcomers Uma Thurman and Henry Golding.

Theron also played a key role behind the scenes, producing the action drama through her company Denver and Delilah.
