A thief, stricken with remorse, returned stolen valuables to the family home of famous Marathi writer Narayan Surve, police reported on Tuesday.

Surve's home, located in Neral, Raigad district, was robbed while his daughter Sujata and her husband were away for ten days. Among the items stolen was an LED TV set.

Upon returning to the house the next day for more items, the thief noticed Surve's photo and memorabilia, leading to a change of heart. Apologizing in a note, he returned the stolen items. Police are investigating the case further using fingerprints found on the TV and other articles.
