Pope Francis on Friday signaled that a Vatican deal with China concerning the appointment of Catholic bishops is showing promising results. He indicated that the agreement will almost certainly be renewed later this year.

Speaking on a flight back to Rome from Singapore, Francis praised the 2018 deal, which grants China some input in the selection of Catholic bishops, noting that 'the results are good.'

'I am happy with the dialogue with China,' the 87-year-old pontiff stated. 'We are working with good will.'
