Mayurbhanj Schools Closed Due to Heavy Rain Forecast

The authorities of Mayurbhanj district have announced that all schools will be closed on Saturday, in response to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast of heavy rain in several parts of north Odisha.
The IMD has issued a 'red' alert, indicating a need for urgent action, specifically for Mayurbhanj district, where isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning are expected.
According to a statement from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, heavy rainfall could result in flash floods, waterlogging in low-lying areas, inundation of agricultural fields, and potential mudslides or landslides in vulnerable hilly regions. An 'orange' warning has also been issued for the neighboring districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, and Keonjhar.
