The school education department of West Bengal has issued a show cause notice to three state-aided schools in Howrah district. The notice follows reports of students taking part in a rally during school hours, protesting a woman doctor's rape and murder at a Kolkata hospital.

The schools in question—Baluhati High School, Baluhati Girls' High School, and Bantra Rajlakshmi Girls School—have been asked to respond within 24 hours. Along with students, teachers and non-teaching staff also participated in the rally, violating department regulations.

Department officials stated strict actions would follow if responses were unsatisfactory. Recent directives barred school students from non-school activities, including political rallies, amid growing protests over the incident across the state.
