In a disturbing incident at a school in Badlapur, two young girls were allegedly sexually abused by a male attendant, sparking a wave of outrage across Thane district. Susieben Shah, the chairperson of Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, criticized the school management for attempting to cover up the crime instead of aiding the concerned parents in filing a police complaint.
The alleged crime triggered major protests, with angry parents and local residents disrupting rail services and clashing with police. Shah emphasized that the alleged abuse is clearly a case for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
After being informed of the incident, Shah contacted the Thane District Child Protection Unit, which assisted the parents in lodging a police complaint. She questioned the school's management regarding their cover-up attempt, stressing that the chaotic situation could have been prevented if the school had immediately notified the police. Shah condemned the 11-hour delay faced by the parents and called for a structured procedure to prevent such incidents in the future, urging strict implementation of police verification for all school staff.
