Qatar's Stance: Mediation Halted in Gaza Conflict
Qatar has decided to suspend its mediation efforts in the Gaza conflict until Hamas and Israel show a willingness to negotiate. The Gulf country, influential in previous talks, also questions the presence of Hamas' political office in Doha. The move highlights challenges in achieving a ceasefire and hostage release deal.
In a significant development, Qatar has announced a suspension of its mediation efforts in the Gaza conflict. This decision will remain until both Hamas and Israel express a genuine willingness to return to negotiations, according to a source informed about the situation, as reported by Reuters on Saturday.
Qatar, the United States, and Egypt have been central players in attempting to broker a ceasefire and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. Despite numerous rounds of discussions, including a recent attempt in mid-October, the negotiations have repeatedly failed, with Hamas opposing a proposed short-term ceasefire.
While there has been no official response from Hamas, a Palestinian official indicated that the decision may not receive public comment from the group unless formally notified. Qatar remains open to resuming its role if both parties commit to peaceful negotiations, the official stated.
