The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, is set to provide semiconductor technology training to over 2,100 tribal students in the next three years. This initiative aims to empower tribal communities by offering basic training to 1,500 students and advanced training to 600 students.

Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey disclosed in Parliament that the project, dubbed 'Semiconductor Fabrication & Characterization Training for Students from Tribal Community,' falls under the central sector scheme, Tribal Research Information, Education, Communication, and Events.

Supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, six nano centres, including those at the IISc, will host these training programs. The initiative ensures representation from tribal communities as per reservation policies, boosting opportunities for students with engineering degrees from these communities.
