As Bengaluru prepares for the New Year festivities, city police have intensified security measures to manage anticipated large gatherings. Authorities have strategically deployed personnel across vital locations, including the bustling MG Road-Brigade Road junction, and the lively neighborhoods of Koramangala and Indira Nagar.
Additional focus is on areas such as JP Nagar and Whitefield, recognized for their vibrant nightlife. According to Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, about 11,000 personnel, including 72 KSRP platoons and 21 CAR platoons, will be actively monitoring key hotspots to prevent incidents like drunk driving and ensure public safety during the celebrations.
Despite mourning for the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh affecting government operations, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed individual celebrations remain unaffected. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized maintaining law and order in this international city, with nearly 10,000 cameras installed to bolster safety efforts during the festive period.
