The Madhya Pradesh government has directed schools to observe the Guru Purnima festival by organizing cultural programmes on July 20 and 21. These events aim to highlight Indian culture and the traditional guru-shishya relationship.
On the first day, students will learn about the historical significance of the teacher-student relationship in Indian culture. Following the morning prayer, teachers will discuss the importance of this tradition and the essence of Guru Purnima.
Students will also engage in an essay writing competition on topics such as ancient Indian 'Gurukul' systems and 'Bharatiya Sanskriti' (Indian culture). The second day will feature a prayer ceremony dedicated to goddess Saraswati and the gurus, accompanied by a lamp-lighting ritual. A special ceremony will honour teachers, who will share personal stories alongside students, illustrating their mutual respect and bond.
