The Bihar government has empowered district magistrates to close schools if flood-like situations arise within their jurisdictions.
The move follows a tragic incident where Avinash Kumar, a government school teacher, fell into the Ganga river near Patna and was carried away by strong currents. The incident occurred at Nasriganj ghat as he was taking a boat to reach his school in Chhota Kasimchak locality.
Education Department Secretary Baidya Nath Yadav confirmed the decision, citing Disaster Management regulations. A search operation is underway for Kumar, involving the state's disaster response force. The department has also mandated the use of registered boats and life jackets in flood-hit areas.
