The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has replaced over 12,000 blackboards with whiteboards at a cost of approximately Rs 41.5 crore, according to a civic body official. This initiative is part of efforts to modernize infrastructure in MCD-run schools across 12 zones.

In addition to the whiteboards, the schools have been provided with around 25,700 magnetic whiteboard erasers and dusters, along with over one lakh water-based whiteboard markers, the official said. A tender was floated last year to install the whiteboards, which was completed in June.

The MCD's data indicates that the distribution of whiteboards varies across zones: 1,925 in South Delhi, 1,540 in Rohini, and 1,484 in West Delhi, among others. Previously, many schools had outdated blackboards or chalkboards, which were difficult to clean and produced chalk dust. With a total of 1,535 schools, the upgrade is set to impact approximately 8.5 lakh students.
