Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has voiced strong criticism against the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government's initiative to introduce a digital attendance system in government schools. In a social media post, she highlighted that quality education hinges on recruiting adequate teachers and providing necessary facilities, not just digital solutions.
Mayawati alleged the digital attendance system for teachers was implemented hastily and without proper preparation, resulting in opposition from educators. She pointed out the poor conditions of government schools due to a chronic lack of basic facilities, arguing that the government is diverting attention with superficial measures instead of addressing core issues through adequate budgetary provisions.
In June, the Yogi Adityanath administration announced plans to digitize 12 types of registers in schools, including a digital attendance system that utilizes face recognition on tablets. This was set to be rolled out across the state starting July 15, applying to both teachers and students.
