Auto major Tata Motors on Monday announced the establishment of automotive skilling labs in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, in partnership with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

In accordance with the 'National Education Policy 2020', these labs aim to nurture over 4,000 students annually with practical automotive skills, with a notable 30 percent of enrolment comprising of girls.

To date, 25 labs, fully equipped with essential tools, have been set up across select Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Vinod Kulkarni, CSR Head at Tata Motors, stated, "Our automotive skill labs empower youngsters from underserved communities with employable skills relevant for the evolving automotive sector in India."

These facilities provide secondary and senior secondary students with essential subject knowledge, hands-on skills, and valuable industry exposure both on school premises and at company plants.

Upon completion of the program, students will receive joint certificates from Tata Motors and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). Post-schooling, students can pursue a diploma in manufacturing technology with a full stipend and on-the-job training at the company's manufacturing facilities.

Additionally, those interested in continuing with Tata Motors can opt for a BTech degree in engineering, a 3.5-year executive education program in collaboration with select engineering institutes, leading to permanent employment after five years.
