The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) initiated trial runs on Monday for the new Namo Bharat trains, which are set to operate between Meerut South and Meerut Central. The trains are being evaluated at speeds reaching 120 kilometers per hour, a significant step in the development of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).

The trials, which include comprehensive assessments of weight, safety, and system integration, signal a major milestone. The NCRTC has released a video demonstrating the seamless integration with signaling systems, platform screen doors, and traction. Current trials are ongoing on a six-kilometer route between Meerut South and Shatabdi Nagar, marking an essential phase in the project's timeline.

For the first time, a local metro service will operate on the new Namo Bharat infrastructure. The Meerut Metro, slated to cover 13 stations along a 23-kilometer stretch, is expected to be fully operational by the end of June, according to the NCRTC.
