In a significant move, the Income Tax Department has decided to keep its offices open from March 29 to March 31, 2025, spanning a weekend and a potential Eid-al-Fitr holiday. This decision is aimed at assisting taxpayers in addressing any pending tax-related business as the fiscal year ends.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has instructed all income tax offices across India to function continuously during these dates to ensure completion of departmental work. March 31 marks the conclusion of the financial year 2024-25, and all government payments and settlements must be finalized by then.
In a parallel directive, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated banks managing government business to remain open on March 31. This is to facilitate the accounting of government receipts and payments within the current financial year. Special clearing operations have been organized nationwide to support this effort, according to the RBI.
