In a significant meeting held in New Delhi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman engaged with a delegation from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The delegation featured 11 Board of Directors from nine constituencies and AIIB senior representatives visiting India, as per the Ministry of Finance.
The AIIB Board's trip to India aims to provide a comprehensive view of AIIB's active and planned investments, while offering a platform to engage with government, private sector, and other stakeholders. The Union Finance Minister applauded AIIB's growth over nine years and emphasized India's leadership role in digital public infrastructure.
As an AIIB Board Governor, Sitharaman called for expanded investments in sectors like climate adaptation, infrastructure, and digital innovations, underscoring India's ability to offer best sectoral practices. She proposed India's role as a sandbox for piloting innovative financing models and stressed the need for an institutional knowledge transfer mechanism.
