External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has underscored the imperative of developing capabilities across various domains to bolster India's comprehensive national power. Addressing the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Aditya Birla Scholarships Programme in Mumbai, Jaishankar elaborated on the necessity of fortifying domestic capabilities.
"Today, comprehensive national power is a common benchmark not only measured by military might or political influence but also by technological prowess, economic resilience, and societal well-being," he stated. He accentuated that large nations, like India, need self-sufficiency to avoid vulnerabilities in today's weaponized economic landscape.
India's ascension as the world's fifth-largest economy, aspiring to become the third by decade's end, has been marked by increased exports, doubled investments, and international engagement. Jaishankar noted that Indian diplomacy now emphasizes export promotion, investment attraction, and building resilient supply chains, as highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
