General Manager P Uday Kumar Reddy of Kolkata Metro Railway recently inspected the Bowbazar site of the East-West Metro project, following persistent leakage issues in the under-construction tunnel since September 5. This marks the fourth such incident since August 2019.
Initial expectations to complete the Howrah Maidan to Sector V corridor by 2025 have been thrown into uncertainty as officials hesitate to provide a new timeline for completion. Delays have plagued the project despite ongoing efforts to advance construction.
During his site visit, Reddy reviewed tunnel strengthening work and emphasized the need for all possible precautions. He urged the completion of the Sealdah-Esplanade tunnel to commence services along the Howrah Maidan-Salt Lake Sector V stretch.
