The Tamil Nadu government has introduced a substantial financial incentive, aiming to support the state's sugarcane farmers. Announced on Saturday, this Rs 247 crore initiative is set to benefit approximately 1.2 lakh sugarcane growers, according to an official release.
The incentive targets farmers who supplied sugarcane to a variety of mills, encompassing two public sector, 12 cooperative, and 16 private sugar mills during the 2023-24 crushing season. The release detailed the incentive rate at Rs 3,134.75 per metric tonne of sugarcane supplied.
This move reflects the government's commitment to bolstering the agricultural sector's resilience, providing much-needed financial support to farmers amid their crucial harvest period.
