Agartala, Tripura—The Government of Tripura, in partnership with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and the Centre for Chronic Disease Control (CCDC), has launched the STAR-NCD program, aimed at enhancing the prevention, diagnosis, and management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) throughout the state. The initiative, known as Strengthening Ambulatory Care for Non-Communicable Diseases in India (STAR-NCD), is part of a National Health Research Priority (NHRP) led by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It focuses on improving out-patient care services, particularly for conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.

The Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, inaugurated the program, underlining the state's dedication to addressing the burgeoning issue of NCDs. 'Tripura is committed to enhancing healthcare services, and the STAR-NCD program will be instrumental in mitigating the impact of chronic diseases. By integrating advanced technologies and focusing on primary care, we aim to ensure better health outcomes for our citizens,' said Prof. Saha. The Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Tripura, also emphasized the program's significance, noting, 'This initiative marks a substantial milestone in our healthcare system. By fortifying our health facilities' capabilities, we are paving the way for a future where quality healthcare is accessible to all, especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas.'

Prof. Nikhil Tandon of AIIMS, New Delhi, highlighted the collaborative effort saying, 'The STAR-NCD program is designed to augment the capacity of our healthcare workers and introduce advanced clinical decision support systems (CDSS) to enhance diagnosis and treatment pathways. Our collaboration with the Government of Tripura will serve as a model for other states.' Prof. D. Prabhakaran, Executive Director of CCDC, added, 'NCDs pose a significant challenge to public health, and we are excited to closely work with the state of Tripura to implement evidence-based solutions that cater to the region's unique healthcare needs. The STAR-NCD project will provide health systems with tools and data to improve patient outcomes.'

The STAR-NCD program will be initially rolled out across various districts, starting with Gomati District, and aims to benefit millions by bolstering the state's healthcare infrastructure and integrating digital health platforms.
