The upcoming Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra's Palghar is drawing considerable global attention and is expected to generate 12 lakh jobs upon completion, said Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, made these remarks at the curtain raiser for the launch of 'Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue'.

The inaugural event is slated for November 18 and 19, 2024, in Mumbai. Reflecting on India's recent maritime achievements, Sonowal noted the foundation laying of Vadhavan Major Port by the Prime Minister on August 30.

This green-field mega container port on India's west coast, with an investment of USD 10 billion, promises over 1.2 million jobs and has attracted notable global interest, Sonowal highlighted.

He also discussed India's leadership in green transition efforts, citing the Green Tug Transition Program, and mentioned the success of the 2023 Global Maritime India Summit, securing USD 119 billion in commitments.

Sonowal called upon global leaders, industry experts, and policymakers to attend the inaugural 'Sagarmanthan' in Mumbai to leverage the oceans' potential for an inclusive, sustainable future.
