Cabinet Approves New Mumbai-Indore Rail Line
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a new 309-kilometer rail line to connect Mumbai and Indore, costing Rs 18,036 crore. The project aims to boost commerce, employment, and regional connectivity by 2028-29, covering six districts while promoting tourism and reducing logistics costs.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given the green light for the construction of a 309-kilometre rail line connecting Mumbai and Indore, according to Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The project, with an estimated budget of Rs 18,036 crore, is targeted for completion by the year 2028-29.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the decision, highlighting its potential to enhance connectivity, boost commerce, and create job opportunities. The new line, part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, aims to facilitate seamless multi-modal connectivity for people, goods, and services.
Covering six districts in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, the project is expected to increase the Indian Railways network by approximately 309 kilometres. It will support tourism, connect major industrial hubs, and enhance the distribution of agricultural products, thus contributing significantly to regional growth and India's climate goals.
