The Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) has declared an indefinite strike, set to begin on September 17, targeting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's residence in Nagpur. The protest calls for the immediate construction of a four-lane highway from Latur to Tembhurni.

According to Sanjay Shete, NCP (SP)'s Latur district president, the highway has been a long-standing demand for 25 years. The strike coincides with Marathwada Liberation Day, adding a significant historical context to their protest.

The proposed 162-kilometer highway is seen as crucial for connecting Latur, Nanded, Pune, and Mumbai. Despite meeting the required traffic criteria, the project remains incomplete, with 52 kilometers still pending. Shete criticized Gadkari for not fulfilling his promises to the region.
