Harbhajan Singh, Punjab's Minister for Public Works and Power, has confirmed the state government's dedication to finalizing the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects. Singh noted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is personally involved in addressing any complications, ensuring that land acquisition issues will soon be resolved.
Sparking concern, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had previously cautioned Punjab's Chief Minister about potential cancellations of eight highway projects, collectively spanning 293 km and valued at Rs 14,288 crore, due to deteriorating law and order conditions. Gadkari highlighted two alarming incidents on the Delhi-Katra Expressway, including an assault on an engineer and threats to contractors.
Despite these challenges, the state remains focused on facilitating the completion of NHAI projects. Punjab's new Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, has called for prompt resolution of any issues, encouraging clear, written communication to expedite the process and ensure no central projects face extended delays.
