A tragic bus accident in central Nepal has resulted in the deaths of at least 27 Indian pilgrims from Maharashtra, with 16 others sustaining injuries, police reported. The accident occurred when the tourist bus, en route from Pokhara to Kathmandu, veered off the highway and plunged into the Marsyangdi river.
The mishap took place in the Anbookhaireni area of Chitawan district. Deputy Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force Shailendra Thapa confirmed that 16 people were killed on the spot, while 11 succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The injured have been airlifted to Kathmandu's Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for further care.
Rescue operations involved 250 security personnel, and efforts are ongoing to retrieve the wreckage of the bus, which remains lodged on the riverbank. Monsoon conditions have complicated the rescue efforts.
