Steel and Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena revealed to the Assembly on Thursday that gold reserves have been discovered in various districts of Odisha. This announcement came in response to a query from Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati.

During a 'general exploration' (G2) for copper ore in the Adash-Rampalli area of Deogarh district, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) discovered notable gold deposits, according to Jena. He added that steps are being taken to auction the block. Preliminary surveys in the Gopur-Gajipur area of Keonjhar district have indicated potential deposits, though their quality and quantity are yet to be fully assessed.

The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) is conducting surveys in additional areas, while the GSI and the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DoMG) are running preliminary surveys in multiple districts, including Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. Information suggests the possible presence of gold in districts like Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Angul, and others, though detailed surveys have yet to be performed.
