A recent survey has shed light on a growing trend among Mumbai's bus commuters, with 47 percent now using digital applications for bookings. The study, conducted by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in collaboration with Grant Thornton, highlights the widespread adoption of the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) live tracking app, Chalo, which has garnered over six million downloads within two years of its launch.

The IAMAI's findings, which surveyed more than 1,400 participants, emphasize a notable shift towards digital convenience. Nearly half of the respondents now rely on city travel apps for bus bookings, citing ease of use and real-time seat availability as key factors. Additionally, 21 percent valued accurate real-time bus tracking, while 12 percent appreciated personalized tariff options despite some concerns over convenience fees and app performance.

The survey, published in an insight paper titled 'Connected Commutes 2024', underscores the transformative impact of online platforms on urban mobility in Mumbai. It highlights how the increasing use of bus travel apps contributes to sustainable, efficient, and eco-friendly city commuting. Dhruv Chopra, Co-founder of Chalo Mobility Pvt Ltd, noted that strategic partnerships and continuous innovation are poised to make public transportation a more practical and sustainable choice for millions in the city.
