Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound sorrow over the death of CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, honoring him as a 'leading light of the Left.' Modi stated that his thoughts are with Yechury's family and admirers during this difficult time. Yechury, aged 72, passed away on Thursday afternoon after battling pneumonia, having been admitted to Delhi's AIIMS.

In a statement on social media platform X, Modi highlighted Yechury's ability to connect across political divides and praised his impactful parliamentary career. 'Saddened by the passing away of Sitaram Yechury Ji. He was a leading light of the Left, known for his ability to connect across the political spectrum. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti,' wrote the Prime Minister.

President Droupadi Murmu echoed the sentiment, describing Yechury as a distinct and influential voice in national politics. 'Saddened to learn about the demise of CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury. As a student leader and parliamentarian, he had a distinct voice. Though a committed ideologue, he won friends across party lines. My heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues,' the President posted on X.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also conveyed their condolences. Shah termed Yechury's passing as a loss to the political sphere, while Singh described him as a friend and a seasoned parliamentarian. Several other leaders, including Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman, shared their grief and memories of Yechury, underscoring his significant role in Indian politics. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah emphasized his unwavering commitment to his beliefs and his legacy as a staunch advocate for his causes.
