BMW is recalling more than 720,000 vehicles due to a potential fire risk linked to the water pump's electrical connector, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall impacts models such as the X1, X3, and X5, among others. The vehicles in question have water pumps with insufficient sealing, making them vulnerable to fluid ingress at the electrical plug connector, which over time could lead to a short circuit and, in rare cases, a fire.
Owners will be notified in October to bring their vehicles to authorized BMW centers for free inspections and necessary repairs. Preventive measures will include installing a shield to divert fluid from the pump.
