NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), a sector of the Australian government, have jointly opened applications for the Climate Smart Agritech cohort under the Rapid Innovation and Startup Expansion (RISE) Accelerator program. Designed to aid startups and MSMEs targeting international growth, the program was introduced in a statement by NITI Aayog on Monday.

The accelerator is set to benefit startups working in both India and Australia, particularly those utilizing technologies that boost agricultural productivity and resilience. The program prioritizes solutions addressing farmers' needs and on-farm practices. Over nine months, participants will engage in a mix of online and in-person sessions, including immersion weeks in both countries.

The selected startups and MSMEs will receive extensive support, including market insights, one-on-one coaching, and mentorship. The initiative aims to connect participants with potential partners and customers, increasing their chances of thriving in new markets. Additionally, the program will feature field trials and a technology pilot towards the end. Applications will be accepted until September 15, 2024.

Participation in the program is free for startups and SMEs, with various travel opportunities between India and Australia. Selected participants may also receive non-equity grants up to Rs 45 lakhs. Since its launch in 2023, the RISE Accelerator has been pivotal in assisting startups and MSMEs in adapting and piloting their technologies for new markets. The new Climate Smart Agritech cohort will focus on advancing agricultural productivity and resilience amid environmental challenges.

CSIRO Program Director Tamara Ogilvie highlighted the shared agricultural challenges between India and Australia, noting that this cohort will help participants find product-market fit in diverse markets and quickly scale their solutions to meet global needs. (ANI)
