Indian exporters are on edge as the Monkeypox outbreak continues to affect parts of Africa, a vital market for Indian goods. Despite containment in select areas, the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) remains cautious.

Director General Ajay Sahai noted that while the spread isn't widespread, exporters are wary. So far, no lockdowns have affected payments, but the situation is under close watch. The Globe Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) founder Ajay Srivastava urged India to stay vigilant and ensure public health measures are in place to prevent economic impact.

Currently, no Monkeypox cases are reported in India. The Union Health Ministry has initiated preventive steps, such as airport screenings and readying health facilities, following the WHO's recent declaration of the disease as an international public health emergency. Trade between India and Africa saw a significant increase in 2022-23, and both regions aim to double their trade volume by 2030.
