In the early hours of Saturday, the Sabarmati Express train derailed near Kanpur after colliding with an object placed on the track. The derailment occurred at approximately 2:35 AM.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that twenty coaches were affected, but thankfully, no injuries were reported. The investigation, now underway by the IB and Uttar Pradesh Police, suggests possible involvement of miscreants.
Officials have discovered foreign material near the 16th coach, hinting at foul play. The loco pilot reported significant damage to the engine's cattle guard, thought to be caused by a boulder. Alternative transportation arrangements are being made for passengers, with rescue operations ongoing.
