Tourism Ministry's Skill Development Initiative Trains Over 12,000 Individuals Nationwide

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced a Destination-Based Skill Development training program by the Tourism Ministry, helping over 12,000 individuals. The initiative aims to boost employment and tourism development at 145 locations across the country. Further funds have been allocated under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme for infrastructure improvement.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has unveiled a comprehensive Destination-Based Skill Development training program aimed at boosting employment within the tourism sector. Shekhawat informed the Rajya Sabha that over 12,000 individuals have been trained across 145 locations nationwide.

"The Ministry of Tourism has undertaken a Destination-Based Skill Development training program at various places in the country to train, upgrade, and sensitize the local people residing near the tourist sites and destinations. Around 12,187 candidates have been trained at 145 destinations," Shekhawat revealed in a written statement to the Rajya Sabha. The Ministry is also actively promoting tourism through various marketing initiatives across domestic and international platforms.

Shekhawat further highlighted the Ministry's efforts under the revamped Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) scheme, which allocates funds for both the development of new destinations and upgrading existing ones. Recent allocations include Rs 26.30 crore for Hampi in Karnataka, Rs 4.12 crore for Mysuru's heritage Tonga ride, Rs 30.02 crore for Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu, and Rs 56.81 crore for Bhongir Fort in Telangana. These initiatives aim to create sustainable and responsible tourist destinations.
