Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called on the leather and footwear industry to achieve USD 50 billion in exports by 2030.

During an interaction with the industry on Wednesday, Goyal highlighted the ministry's commitment to addressing concerns related to quality control orders (QCOs) to streamline certification.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) recently issued two QCOs for the sector, effective from August. Manufacturers have until August 1 to declare old stock and until June 30 to sell it. Exemptions apply to micro and small units and sole imports for export footwear.
