State-run electronics company Keltron has once again received a significant order worth Rs 17 crore from the defence sector, state Industries Minister P Rajeeve announced on Thursday.

Kuttipuram Keltron Electro Ceramics Limited (KECL), a subsidiary of Keltron, has secured its largest defence electronics order to date, valued at Rs 17 crore, according to Rajeeve.

The order, placed by Bharat Electronics Limited in Bangalore, pertains to the manufacture of advanced transducer elements required for sonar systems on ASW shallow watercraft, a flagship project of the Indian Navy. KECL is set to produce more than 2,000 of these transducer elements.

Transducers, key components of hydrophones, detect the presence of other ships and submarines through sound waves under the sea, ensuring maritime security. KECL is a significant public sector undertaking that produces these transducers domestically. Keltron has a long history of manufacturing defence electronics equipment for the Indian Navy. Last month, the company secured a major order worth ₹97 crore.

State Industries Minister Rajeeve highlighted that these continuous orders underscore Keltron's technological excellence in the defence electronics sector.
