Panic gripped the passengers of a train heading to Delhi from Bareilly after noticing a smoke-like substance emanating from one of its compartments at a railway station, according to an official statement on Monday.

The incident occurred at 8:10 PM on Sunday, causing the train to be halted at Gumthal Railway Station for about 30 minutes, an official reported.

Vinod Sharma, station master of Gumthal railway station, told PTI that a fire extinguisher inside the coach had been tampered with, leading to a leak. The mist was mistaken for smoke, triggering alarm among the passengers.

The train, which typically stops for just two minutes at Gumthal station, resumed its journey 30 minutes later at 8:40 PM, Sharma confirmed.
