Delta Air Lines Faces Major Disruptions After Cyber Outage
Delta Air Lines is experiencing significant operational challenges due to a global cyber outage that hit its crew tracking system, resulting in the cancellation of over 4,500 flights. The issue was triggered by a software update from CrowdStrike, impacting many airlines but hitting Delta the hardest.
Delta Air Lines is facing significant operational challenges as it works to restore normal operations following a major cyber outage last week. The airline has canceled around 1,000 flights on Sunday, adding to the 3,500 already scrapped, and delayed another 1,700 flights.
The cyber outage has left thousands of Delta travelers stranded across the U.S., with many resorting to car rentals to reach their destinations and others facing days-long delays or trip cancellations. Delta has not provided a specific timeline for when normal operations will resume, with another 137 flights already canceled for Monday.
The issue arose from a software update by global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, which affected Microsoft customers, including many airlines. While other U.S. carriers have largely recovered, Delta continues to struggle due to problems with its crew tracking system. Delta CEO Ed Bastian informed customers and employees that adjustments in the schedule will continue as needed to ensure safety.
