Union Minister Ajay Tamta has announced the launch of a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity between Gwalior and Agra. Work on the greenfield six-lane highway is scheduled to begin within the current financial year.

Approval has also been granted for the construction of a western bypass around Gwalior's ring road, further boosting the region's development.

'Madhya Pradesh has set a new dimension of development, providing essential facilities to the public,' Tamta said. He highlighted that the project report for the Rs 4612 crore highway, stretching 88.4 kilometres, is complete, and tenders have been floated.

According to Tamta, the new highway will significantly reduce travel time between Gwalior and Agra, shortening the duration from three hours to one hour. Additionally, a 28.8-kilometre western bypass costing Rs 1,004 crore will be built, enhancing regional development.

The Ministry has already completed work on the Gwalior-Jhansi highway, reducing travel time between the two cities from three hours to one hour, Tamta added.
