Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol on Saturday announced that the Navi Mumbai International Airport will begin operations in March 2025.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Mohol visited the airport site to review ongoing work progress.

''Based on the current progress, the airport will be operational by March next year. It is expected to enhance connectivity with Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Kalyan, and western Maharashtra,'' Mohol remarked, noting the project's international standards and an annual footfall projection of nearly 20 million passengers.

Mohol expressed support for naming the airport after late PWP leader DB Patil and assured discussions would resolve issues regarding compensation for project-affected persons (PAP).

''We are committed to ensuring that people who have contributed land for the airport project are not displaced,'' he clarified, emphasizing the government's understanding of related issues and compensations.

He emphasized Prime Minister Modi's ongoing backing of development initiatives in Maharashtra.

Commenting on the Maharashtra council election results, Mohol praised the Mahayuti alliance's success and called on the Congress to address its internal challenges.

The ruling Mahayuti alliance won all nine seats it contested in the biennial elections to 11 legislative council seats, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi faced a setback with a candidate backed by NCP (SP) losing.
